Serve and Protect
Joining Leicestershire Police as a police constable means experiencing some of the most rewarding moments of your life. It could be anything from helping those in need, to saving lives. It’s a dynamic, meaningful role where every day counts.
We’re looking for people from all walks of life to help us serve and protect the communities of Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. You’ll be part of a supportive, close-knit and diverse family. Could you be the difference we need?
A PC shift pattern can vary depending on operational requirements or, the department you are working in.
On Response you will typically work a 6 on, 4 off pattern, but other departments may work a 4 on, 4 off, for example.
Shift Starts
First job. Make a tea! It might be your only chance to sit down and relax all day.
Briefing
Receive your tasks for the shift. They could involve domestic incidents, missing people, or other emergencies.
Equipment Check
Ensure all your gear is ready. Radios, body cameras, and uniforms must be in top condition for whatever comes your way.
First Call: Road Traffic Collision (RTC)
Blue lights on and head to the scene! It's a minor RTC with no injuries. Take statements, run checks, and assist partner agencies in clearing the road.
Paperwork Time
Back at the station to fill out incident reports and ensure everything’s up to date. Try to keep on top of paperwork throughout the shift to avoid a backlog.
Domestic Violence Suspect
Intelligence suggests the whereabouts of a suspected domestic violence perpetrator. Time to head out for a potential arrest.
Break Time (sort of)
Search for the suspect came up empty. Time for a quick break and grab some food before the next call.
Missing Person
Break interrupted! A high-risk missing person case comes in. Join other teams to search the local area.
ASB Checks
Missing person found safe and well! While in the area, conduct a tour of a known hotspot for anti-social behaviour (ASB).
Break
Finally! A moment to eat and recharge.
Drunk and Disorderly
Break cut short! A call comes in about a drunk person threatening violence. Time for blue lights again!
Arrest Made
Arrest the individual for being drunk and disorderly.
Custody
Queue at the custody desk! Wait while the suspect is booked in.
Suspect Booked In
Complete the booking process and hand the suspect over to the custody officer.
Back to the Station
Final paperwork of the day before heading out.
End of Shift
Today we finished on time, but that's not always the case! Time to head home and rest up for another busy day tomorrow!
On appointment with no previous constable experience, the starting salary will be £31,164.
Pay increases annually; within 7 years, if you remain at the rank of police constable/detective constable you can expect a salary of £50,256.

Specialist roles
You can dive into specialist roles like becoming a detective or working in neighbourhood policing, focusing on the community.
Specialist Operations roles
If you're into tackling big challenges, you could move into intelligence work or join the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU).
Operation Support roles
If you love action, roles like dog handler or firearms officer in Operational Support might be just what you’re looking for.

I left home at 15, determined to change my path - and becoming a police officer was the most empowering step I’ve taken. From teaching to prison work, every role led me here. At Leicestershire Police, I’ve found purpose, strength, and the chance to be a role model for other women. It’s not always easy, but believing in yourself is everything. Now, I use my journey to support victims and show them change is possible. This really is the best job in the world.
Switching from professional basketball to policing was the best decision I’ve made. As a Neighbourhood Patrol Officer in Leicester’s diverse city centre, every day brings new challenges - and the chance to make a real difference. Coming from a Caribbean background, I’m proud to represent my community and serve others with empathy and respect. I never imagined I’d be a police officer - especially after working in a laboratory - but I wanted more. To help people face to face. Policing is unpredictable, exciting, and deeply rewarding. Every day is different, and I know I’m making a real difference, especially to the vulnerable. The camaraderie and the support is unmatched. I always treat people the way I’d want my own family treated. Joining Leicestershire Police was a leap, but it’s become one of the best decisions of my life.

Leaving digital marketing to join Leicestershire Police was life-changing. Through the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, I’ve grown in confidence, stepped outside my comfort zone, and found purpose in breaking stereotypes and supporting my community. Representation matters - wearing the hijab on the frontline shows others that there are no limits here. I’m proud to be part of a force that values inclusion, and I hope to inspire more Muslim women to see policing as a place where they truly belong.
I previously worked in custody, where I realised I wanted to be on the other side of the desk—helping those in need and pushing myself in a rewarding career. What makes Leicestershire Police such a great place to work is the team around me: supportive, dependable, and always there when things get tough. I’ve had the chance to lead on several jobs, including coordinating with another force to safely return a high-risk missing person. These experiences have taught me the value of teamwork, task prioritisation, and managing my workload. While the role is demanding, the opportunity to support vulnerable people—and sometimes even save lives—makes it incredibly rewarding.
