Violence Reduction Network

Preventing and reducing serious violence

Introduction

The Violence Reduction Network (VRN) is a coalition of groups, organisations, and communities united in the effort to prevent and reduce serious violence in the area. We envision Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland as places where everyone can live free from violence and the fear of it. Our mission is to achieve "prevention through connection" by fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and courageous network that drives both short- and long-term change to address the root causes and impacts of violence.

Our teams

These are some of the key teams that you'll find within the Violence Reduction Network.

Community Oversight Group
Community Projects
Schools Network
Community Leadership

Community Oversight Group

They play a key role in supporting and scrutinising the work of Leicestershire Police and partners in tackling serious violence, especially among young people, by helping to shape, influence, and review the VRN’s interventions and projects through regular meetings

Community Projects

The Community Projects run by the Violence Reduction Network (VRN) in Leicestershire are grassroots initiatives designed to prevent violence and anti-social behaviour by engaging young people in positive, creative, and supportive activities. These projects are part of a broader strategy to tackle the root causes of violence through early intervention and community partnership

Schools Network

The network is a collaborative platform connecting schools across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland to support violence prevention by sharing resources, collaborating on interventions and training, and helping schools create safer, more supportive environments for students.

Community Leadership

The Community Leadership Programme, run by the Violence Reduction Network (VRN) in partnership with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), is a 14-week initiative that empowers local community leaders across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland through regular meetings to review and advise on VRN programmes

Investing in your development

Working in the VRN means you will be part of a large community partnership between multiple agencies, all with common goals.  You will grow your network and experience through on the job learning, and your career could see you advance within the VRN, or in other areas of the force.
