The Digital Forensic Examination Team at Leicestershire Police is responsible for investigating digital devices such as mobile phones, computers, and storage media to uncover evidence related to criminal activity. They recover deleted data, analyse digital communications, examine CCTV footage, and produce detailed reports to support police investigations. Their work is essential in tackling crimes involving technology, and they often provide expert evidence in court to help secure convictions.
The Multimedia Forensics Team focuses on analysing digital media such as CCTV footage, audio recordings, and images to support criminal investigations. Their work involves enhancing video and audio quality, verifying the authenticity of recordings, and identifying key details like faces, voices, or events captured in the media. They help determine whether footage has been tampered with and extract crucial evidence that can be used in court. This team plays a vital role in cases where visual or audio evidence is central to understanding what happened.
Specialise in gathering and analysing digital evidence from online platforms and digital communications to support criminal investigations. Their work includes tracing social media activity, examining messaging apps, and identifying suspects or victims through digital footprints. They assist in cases involving online threats, harassment, exploitation, and cyber-enabled crimes. By working closely with investigators, the DMI team helps build a clearer picture of events and relationships through digital interactions, playing a vital role in modern policing.
Responsible for investigating serious road traffic collisions, particularly those involving fatalities or life-changing injuries. Their role includes attending collision scenes, conducting detailed examinations of vehicles and road conditions, and using scientific methods to reconstruct how incidents occurred. They gather and analyse physical evidence, such as skid marks, vehicle damage, and environmental factors, to determine the cause of a collision. The unit works closely with other departments and may provide expert reports and testimony in court to support legal proceedings. Their work is vital in ensuring accurate, fair outcomes in serious traffic investigations.
